Potential of suspended growth biological processes for mixed wastewater reclamation and reuse in agriculture: challenges and opportunities

Pollution and increasing water demand, especially for agriculture, put severe stress on freshwater sources, as a result, there is progressive deficit in the global supply scarcity projected coming decades. Discharges from domestic, industrial agricultural activities are potential sources of pollution, impacting human environmental health. In face growing droughts, coupled with demand irrigation, integration high water-volume nutrient-rich effluents, into existing management plans could play an important role tackling problem scarcity. However, gap knowledge about effluents to sewage treatments reuse biologically treated mixed domestic wastewater agriculture. This study, therefore, provides critical review biological treatment including petroleum, textile pharmaceutical better understand capability bioprocesses conditions efficient degradation pollutants. The effectiveness activated sludge-based processes, wastewater, was critically examined, biomass acclimation plays vital enhanced biodegradation performance. Finally, wastewaters crop irrigation assessed by studying outcomes different cases where were utilized production. Management practices, such cultivation salt- metal-tolerant crops, blending dilution sewage, make valuable irrigation.
